West Sands Adoptions received ten referrals in April. The log-in date was March 7, and the groups were 124B and 125A. Lisa Winger from Salt Lake City was one of the adoptive families to receive a referral. Her daughter, Tate Solfrid Winger, is pictured in the first picture below.

A Trip to Ethiopia

Kent and Lynn returned this week from a successful trip to Ethiopia. While there, they met with their Ethiopian staff and with Embassy officials. They were also excited to escort two children back to the United States. Yabsera, age 6, and Melat, age 3, will live in Gilmer, Texas with their new family, Stephen and Tiffany de Gala. The de Gala's were thrilled to meet their new children, and look forward to a wonderful future together.

Hague Accreditation

We are happy to announce that on Friday, November 14, 2008, West Sands Adoptions was notified that we have received Hague accreditation from the Council on Accreditation. As a result of this accreditation, we will now be able to accept applications for China.

Church sending Atmit to aid famine-stricken children in Ethiopia

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is sending 1.4 million pounds of Atmit, an easily digested porridge, to Ethiopia. This followed a report from the United Nations that food shortages in Ethiopia had reached alarming levels.

The Hiatt Family

Pictured above are Roger and Merrilee Hiatt and their children. Roger and Merrilee traveleved to Ethopia this past July to pick up four children. They adopted two girls and two boys. Rahel, who is almost six, Jeruse, who is almost five, Mentesnot, who is four, and Ededeya, who is almost four. Three of the children are a sibling group.

Roger and Merrilee were in Ethiopia for five days. Despite the language and cultural barriers, they said they would definitely do it again. They have eight children of their own, two of which are living at home. Their four new children brings their number to twelve. What an incredible family!

Merrilee is home schooling the children for now, and they will start attending school in January. Congratulations and good luck to this wonderful family!

Noel Nielsen's Darling Twins

Pictured above are Noel Nielsen and her twin daughters, Brenlyn Noel Nielsen and Brikelle Noel Nielsen. Brenlyn and Brikelle were adopted from The Village of Hope in Ethiopia. They were placed with Noel on July 7, 2008. Both Mom and girls are doing great. Besides being adorable, Brenlyn and Brikelle are very smart, high-energy, and happy little girls. They are both in excellent health, will eat everything except dairy, and are good sleepers. Congratulations to this beautiful family!
